The recipient of the Biscuit Barrel in 2021 for services to Wickhambrook is Julie Little.

During the lockdown willow hearts were made by Julie Little, bringing happiness to people around the village.

Willow Heart

Julie was  brought up in Wickhambrook and attended Wickhambrook primary school as a child.  Her mum, auntie, uncle, brother and grandad and sons also attended the school, and her family has lived in Wickhambrook for years.

Julie was asked about her inspiration for the willow hearts, and here is what she said

“ About two years ago I went to the Cambridge flower school as I always wanted to be a florist.  So I did a floristry career course there where I learnt how to make bouquets  wreaths,  one of which was a round eco willow.  So when the pandemic started I decided to make willow hearts to try and spread some happiness to random people around the village.  I also loved reading people’s story’s some which was very touching some which made me smile.  I too, looked forward to people’s responses when they found them. Each Heart took me about one and a half hours to make at one point I got a finger infection from all the wiring and needed antibiotics lol but that did not stop me. …”

Julie is currently working in a florist shop called flowers by Tracey Williams and I loves her job.

Something the parish council wasn’t aware of was that Julie was also the maker of the little willow stick hearts!!

The Biscuit Barrel award is held for one year with Julie LIttle’s name now added to the long list of worthy previous holders.
