Thanks go out to Mary Jolland, our lay environment and sustainability officer on the Estates Committee, for organising our Cemetery Tidying Mornings.
We were blessed with lovely sunny weather and a cooling breeze last week, and:
- cleared some bramble thickets from kerbstones in the old cemetery
- weeded around the Chapel of Rest to access the water buts
- watered our new Cherry Trees, which have been establishing well
- cleared out the thistles and stinging nettles from the border of the Memorial Garden
I’ve featured some pictures taken on the day – the wild flowers have continued into June with Aquilegia (Grandmother’s Bonnets) and Marguerite Daisies – this is the first year we have seen so many and we think it’s due in part to thinning out some of the tree cover in the old cemetery to let in more light!
We meet on the first Wednesday of each month from 10am until 1pm and our next meet is on Wednesday 5th July. We’re planning to rub down the benches preparing them before we give them a coat of teak oil, and wonder if anyone would like to help out with this too?!
