A note from your clerk – parish and district elections – 4th May 2023

Parish and District Elections will be taking place on Thursday 4th May 2023.  To check whether you’re already on the electoral register (a list of names and addresses of everyone who is entitled to vote), contact your local Electoral Registration Office.

If you’re not already on the Register of Electors, you can use the .GOV.UK pages to Register to vote online at https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote, it takes about 5 minutes.

Don’t forget that this year, for the first time, you’ll need voter ID to vote at a polling station – you can apply for voter ID until 25th April.

You can find the Notices of Election for the parish and district here (insert hyperlinks).  Wickhambrook Parish Council has Eight Councillors.   All existing councillors MUST submit new nomination papers if they would like to stand for a new term of office.

If you are interested in becoming a councillor, you can find a lot of useful information and guidance on the Electoral Commission website, which includes:

  • Can you stand for election?
  • Standing as an independent candidate
  • Standing as a party candidate
  • Candidate’s spending form and notes
  • The campaign
  • Your right to attend key electoral events
  • After the declaration of results

The nomination period commences at 9am on Thursday 23 March 2023 until 4pm on Tuesday 4 April 2023. Nomination forms must be delivered by hand and West Suffolk Council offers appointments between the hours of 9am and 5pm to deliver your nomination form to its West Suffolk House office in Bury St Edmunds.

To book an appointment, please email  with details of the date and time that you would like to attend and the area that you will be standing as a candidate for. West Suffolk will confirm your appointment by email.
