A note from your clerk – West Suffolk Grass Cutting Schedule

4th April 2024 | District County Council

West Suffolk Council have sent over an update on their grass cutting schedule…see below.  We’ve added in the link to the grass cutting schedule to our information on services and reporting problems

As agreed by Council as part of the budget process we have been able to increase our grass cutting capacity this coming season following the Grounds Maintenance Review which took place last Autumn. This means increased capacity in terms of staff and resources in both the North and South of the District.

As previously, the planned and scheduled mowing for the forthcoming week is dependent on a range of issues including the prevailing weather conditions, staff and machinery availability, but if areas are not cut when planned the teams will be back as soon as possible to complete the work.

West Suffolk Council works hard to make sure that our grassed areas are maintained to appropriate standards throughout the district. These include our parks and green spaces, playing fields and recreation grounds, cemeteries, playgrounds (amenity areas) and grass verges maintained on behalf of Suffolk County Council.

Like last year the district is divided into three areas, and we aim to cut approximately one third of the amenity grass in each area, each week. You can find information at www.westsuffolk.gov.uk/grasscutting

In addition to the amenity grass areas, that are on a three-week cutting cycle, there are other grass areas that are cut less frequently to encourage greater biodiversity. The council works with local councillors, residents and groups to identify where cutting regimes can be relaxed to encourage biodiversity and are happy to talk to you about areas you may wish to see treated in a different way. Equally residents want some areas cut, especially where overgrowing plants can be a safety issue, such as at junctions.

The various types of land we maintain can also be found by using My West Suffolk which provides a mapped image of the different areas under the Tree and Grounds Maintenance tab.
