Wickhambrook Local History Society News November 2021

Before this month’s meeting, Hilary Workman, the Parish Clerk, appealed for help with a project in Wickhambrook Cemetery to update the records. Software has been purchased to help with the task and volunteers are needed to complete it. Hilary was pleased to have three volunteers from the members. There is also a vacancy on the Parish Council. Please contact the Clerk through the village website if you are interested.

Mike Wabe, a popular speaker whose talk had been postponed last year, made a welcome return to the History Society.

He entered the room dressed as Charles Dickens and proceeded to give us an adaptation of his famous Christmas ghost story.

From his opening declaration of ‘Marley is dead!’ to the closing moments of this story of redemption, the audience was spellbound by the speaker’s excellent delivery of this familiar tale.

There were very good sound effects to keep the narrative so entertaining and all in all it was a marvellous way to get in to the Christmas mood.

Next month, 21st December at 6pm, there will be a savoury supper and social evening with speaker Tony Redman.
