Doorstep Callers

16th December 2021 | Parish Council News

From your clerk…

We’ve had reports that doorstep sales people have been calling at properties in Hundon, Stradishall, Gt Wratting, Wickhambrook and Hargrave yesterday.

Many people have reported that the callers got a little difficult when a sale was refused.

Bobby Bennett, your County Councillor, has followed this up with Trading Standards and also brought it up at the West Suffolk Community Safety Partnership.

It’s unlikely they will visit the same area twice but please see below some general information.

These individuals often claim to be on a youth offending or similar scheme, attempting to mend their ways, before trying to sell the householder everyday household products at very high prices.

Trading Standards always advise residents to refrain from buying at the doorstep and not to buckle to pressure from salespeople offering supposedly one-off ‘buy it now’ low prices.

They generally work in groups across the country but they are not involved in any officially recognised offender rehabilitation programme and many do not possess Pedlar’s Certificates, which are issued by police.

If you are approached at the door, please refuse to buy.

Please report any doorstep caller to Trading Standards via 0808 223 1133.
