Helen’s Herbaceous Garden with Helen Hilliard

What was billed as a talk on Gardens in fact turned into a really interesting display of flower arranging! Helen had brought lots of plants and flowers from her garden to demonstrate how to make stunning but simple displays which anyone could achieve.

Helen stressed that you don’t necessarily need exotic or expensive plants to make a show. Members were held spellbound as she proceeded to make several seasonal arrangements which she then very kindly donated for the raffle. Helen began with a circular display which she built up with groups of plants interspersed with small crab apples in keeping with the autumnal theme. She then made a table decoration using a hollowed out butternut squash complete with its “hat”. Finally she demonstrated how to put together a beautiful hand tie bouquet which was offered with a gift bag.

Along the way Helen gave several useful tips and ideas on flower displays which members could take away with them. The members who won the flower displays in the raffle were delighted!
