Hello Everyone
By the time you read this the new playing season will have started and the use of the bowls green will be in full swing.
Juniors are the order of the day with magnificent funding thanks to the History Society, supported by Wickhambrook Parish Council, for two sets of junior size bowls. These are on order with Bowls World, Ipswich and we are soon to take delivery enabling the club to advertise trial sessions to juniors in the village and forge ahead with offering the use of the green to Wickhambrook Junior Academy School for an after-school club to hopefully be held each week in May and extended if successful.
The Bowls Club has also been in contact with the Wickhambrook Carnival Committee as we hope to open the green to all interested parties on carnival day with members running through the rudiments of the game to anyone who is willing to take part!
As reported in the previous edition of ‘The Scene’ a suitable Portaloo had been identified, I am happy to confirm that this has now been collected by the Chairman and after savouring the delights of the M25/M11 has now arrived in Wickhambrook. Anyone on the recreation ground a few weeks ago may have doubted their eyesight as we carried it along the hedge to the permanent resting place – it would have looked very similar to an episode of ‘Last of the Summer Wine’! Anyway all in place now and ready for action much to the relief of our members! Please see photos!
The final piece of good news is that the application to Tesco Groundworks has been accepted which ensures a grant that will cover the cost of a replacement lawnmower. You would realise what good news this is if you had ever had to cut the treasured turf with the old one!
We hope to see you at the green and please ring Charles on 07881 610138 if you have any questions or would just like to pop along.
