The prospect of sampling award winning, Suffolk farmhouse cheeses tempted many members to the February meeting.

Jason Salisbury told us of the ups and downs of his life as a dairy farmer, being a fully trained artificial inseminator in demand across the world, to finally achieving his own dream of his owning and managing a small herd of Guernsey cows. These provide the milk for the production of several fine cheeses for his award winning business with the help of his wife Katherine, an experienced vet and their young calf and heifer (his description), daughter Emily and son James. An excellent raconteur he came from no farming background leaving school with no qualifications and only found his talents through a government YTS scheme.

Suffolk Gold, Brie and Blue cheeses were delicious proving popular with all present. He has recently diversified into Whey feed rare breed pigs producing pork joints and sausages. He was warmly thanked by Sue Burton Griffiths for a most entertaining evening for all.
