Sixteen members and friends spent a beautiful day in the Felixstowe area, visiting Landguard Fort , the Nature Reserve and the town.
Our guide at the Fort, Chris, was very knowledgeable, and we spent nearly two hours being shown this remarkable building, which has guarded the river estuary as far back as the time of the Romans. The present building is mostly Victorian with some more modern additions and it played a part in the defence of this coast in the Napoleonic Wars, the First and Second World Wars and the Cold War.
If you have not been, we would urge you to visit this fascinating corner of the country. It is next to the container port – the past and the present come together!
