As this was our WI Christmas Party, there was no official business to begin the evening. Members were greeted by canapés and a glass of Prosecco or a soft drink to start the evening off.
The committee had been busy earlier in the day setting out tables and decorations and preparing food. 26 members were treated to a full Christmas dinner – turkey with roast potatoes, vegetables, pigs in blankets, stuffing and lashings of gravy. Desserts, also provided by the committee included Eton mess, tiramisu, cheesecake and fruit salad. After the meal had been topped off with tea and coffee it was time to take part in some party games organised by Jo Taylor and Mitch Karunaratne.
We were eased in gently with a couple of Christmas themed quizzes and then things became more lively. We found ourselves holding paper plates on our heads while being instructed to draw a Christmas fireside scene. This produced a great deal of hilarity and some dubious works of art. After some ( not so serious ) self marking, the winner was declared to be Veronica Ditchburn. The next game was livelier still as we formed two teams to play “ Pin the Nose on Rudolph”. This was naturally done blindfolded with some members being led carefully to the board showing a picture of Rudolph but still managing to miss the mark!
The evening came to a close and members each collected a gift of a bar of handmade soap as they left. All agreed it had been worth the effort of turning out in freezing conditions for a perfect Christmas meal and an evening of festivity.
