Wickhambrook Local History Society News – December 2024

18th December 2024 | Local History Society

40 members of the Society enjoyed a Savoury Supper prepared by the ladies of the committee. Home made soup with crusty bread followed by crumbles and other desserts and tea and coffee were enthusiastically received before we settled down to listen to the speaker for the evening, Kev Kitcher.

Kev joined the army at 16 and enjoyed a varied career, travelling the world before becoming a Beefeater at the Tower of London. He and his family lived there (very cold!) and he enjoyed giving guided tours and taking part in many ceremonial occasions. He then became part of the Yeoman Guard. It was amazing to hear behind the scenes stories of State occasions, such as the Queen Mother’s 100th birthday and the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

We return in the New Year. Tuesday 21st January at 7.30pm in the WI Hall when Jenny Barley will talk on The Stuart Monarchy in Suffolk
