Finally! After what seems like a lifetime Wickhambrook WI were able to hold a meeting in the WI Hall last Tuesday. It was officially our AGM which should have been held in May but as one member said it felt more like a reunion. As we were not sure about singing, the meeting began with a recording of “Jerusalem” which set the mood beautifully. The reports were given from the Treasurer and the Secretary together with reports from the Reading and Walking Groups. We have been fortunate to have received various grants from the council this last year and have been able to replace the windows in the Hall and purchase a new back door making the Hall warmer and weather tight. The kitchen has also had a bit of a makeover and a new fridge and cooker have been added. The committee have all agreed to remain in post until next May when there will be new elections.
In line with efforts to reduce paperwork, it was proposed that the programme would be sent out via e-mail and the minutes would also be sent to every member prior to meetings to cut down on time spent reading them at every meeting. The monthly Tea Parties will now be held on the last Friday of the month. The first will be on Friday 27th August in the WI Hall at 2-30pm. There will be no Tea Party in September as a MacMillan Coffee Morning will be held on Friday 24th September. Do come along and support this worthwhile cause.
We are planning to hold an Open Day in the WI Hall on Saturday 2nd October where we will be inviting all the parties who use the Hall to come along and advertise their activities.
After the business of the meeting members enjoyed tea and coffee with cake provided by committee members. Then it was time for everyone to catch up with friends and learn what they had been up to during lockdown.
The next WI meeting will be on Tuesday 14th September where the speaker will be Cheryl Brighty “Artistry in Cocoa”. The competition is Two Chocolate Muffins.
