Hello All

Just a short report from Wickhambrook Outdoor Bowls Club this edition to keep everyone ‘in the loop’ before the start of the playing season, date to be decided at the 14 March evening meeting of the club. Please contact Charles, the Chairman, if you wish to come along and find out anything about joining in the fun, members can usually be found at the local hostelry after the close of club business if this sounds more tempting.

Further thanks (following the wonderful support for grounds maintenance) to Wickhambrook Parish Council who at their February Estates Committee meeting agreed that the Bowls Club could discreetly site a Port-a-loo within the grounds, this will be painted green for visual effect and members of the Tennis Club will also have use of the facility.  This amenity has been funded thanks to a donation from Borough Councillor Clive Pollington who has accessed a Locality Budget and the Club is very grateful for his interest and support.  A suitable vessel/receptacle/cabin (help!) has been located and will shortly be winging its way to provide much needed ‘comfort breaks’ in the new season.

Back to the caption competition from the previous article – now here I have to make a small admission in that I inadvertently displayed the incorrect email address for the Chairman and therefore subsequent entries – you just can’t get the staff!  Apologies all round and in deference to those who took the trouble to send an entry we are not going to have a competition this time but please resend your original entry for the photo of the Chairman on the green with a half-pint in one hand and a bowl in the other to

If you are considering joining the Club membership has been held at just £30 for the whole of the 2019 playing season, ‘pay and play’ sessions are also available with or without tuition as required.

You may wish to remember that the best known game of bowls was in 1588 when Sir Francis Drake was at Plymouth Hoe waiting for the tide to change before sailing out with the English fleet to engage with the Spanish Armada – who knows what you could achieve after a visit to the green!
